PRIYA'S ARENA

My Space For Thoughts.....

Not my own poem. But liked it a lot... So, here it is for you to read and njoy......
Do remember... Keep Smiling....

If at tyms u want 2 cry,

and life seems such a trial.

Above d clouds deres a bright blue sky,

so make ur tears a smile.

As u travel on lyf's way,

with its many ups and downs,

remember its quite true 2 say,

one smile is worth a dozen frowns.

Among d world's expensive things,

a smile is very cheap,

and wen u give a smile away,

u get one 2 keep.

Happiness comes at times 2 all,

but sadness comes unbidden.

And sometyms a few tears must fall,

among d laughter hidden.

So wen frnds have sadness on deir face,

and troubles round dem piled,

the world will seem a better place,

and all becoz u smiled.

Nice Story and Music.... Do Watch It....

Exam. The encarta dictionary (the only dictionary available to me at this time, in front of my computer) defines exam as "the test of knowledge or ability: a test designed to assess somebody's ability or knowledge in a particular subject or field". Exams are meant to assess the knowledge gathered by a student in the whole semester. But for the students at NITR, it is otherwise. It is not test of knowledge but the ability of how much information you can gather and retain in one night. How less can you sleep in a week.

One of my friends had a status message which read : "the whole semester converges into a single week" and yes!!! it is rightly justified. We spend the whole semester doing useless things, leading a mundane life, playing games, watching movies………… Who cares about studies??? And if anyone does, then he is a GMAT (don’t ask me the full form). And then suddenly, this is "Exam Time". Times of frisk activities. Really those are the instances that inspired me to write this post. If there is sometime the number of friends in green is less than those in red (some use always idle too :P), then this is it. Some don’t even come online.

The advent of the exams are marred by writing assignments (to be more proper - copying assignments), lab tests, viva and nail biting tensions for the exams। But when can you study if you would be having your hands full with so much to write. The lab courses, the TAs everything depend on them (I still don’t understand why the teachers reserve their homework till the last moment), And from here the mid night oil burning starts.

And then the exam time। People are seen hovering around with sets of photocopies in hand. The times when the so-called GMATs become GAWDs to the otherwise. May it be getting a photocopy of his ( or most of the times 'her', as in our section) notes or enquiring about the courses or clearing doubts (I don't know how they arise)। When no more photocopy is possible, taking snaps of it( a cheaper and effective medium). Probably the only times when they don’t use their computers to play games, watch movies and chat. And with we having power cuts in the evening, some are seen making the hostel lawn their study room. And when there was a long seven hours power cut, the corridor emergency lights came to the rescue.

Not just studying, here frisk means being frisky in everything। All the crazy stuffs in the world are beckoned during this time। May it be a long running google group thread or playing online cricket. Even people resort to watching series during this time. With the IPL going, you could watch many with notebooks in their hand and eyes glued to the TV in the common room. Overall this becomes a very eventful period. With the night canteens bearing an overcrowded look (and me being more troubled with a room just in front of it), its lottery for the canteen owner. And sweltering summer means gold strike for the nimbu pani stall and hex too.

Exam time is the time when the world becomes alive at NITR. Not even a single moment goes uneventful. Sometimes I miss these times. Wishing it to be a little longer (don’t come after me to bash, please :P). After exams, comes these vacations. Why are we to have such a long vacation. It eventually becomes boring. May be we should request the authorities to have small small but many vacations :P ...

How can just a three-four days can change my perception of seeing a movie is really a interesting tale. At least, now I can appreciate the works of the people who make a film possible. Really!!! Hats off to them.

It is spring fest time here at NIT Rourkela. And we thought why not participate in something rather than becoming a dumb spectator. So, we searched for any event in which we can compete and choose to participate in a event named 'Technicolor' which is a movie making event. The choice seemed obvious as we have a great editor in Suraj who has experience in After-Affects and other stuffs and we thought this movie making is gonna be easy.

So, we set out to scrounge for a script in which we can make a movie. We even consulted a teacher to do a video on drug abuse, which we thought would be an apt topic on the occasion. But the script seemed too straight and boring, so we had to search another idea. . Five days left and too much of work to do.

But sadly, the first two days went by and we were still undecided on a story. Even reading short story books didn’t help. At last, we settled for a love story as told by Hara Bhai.

And now what is going to be in the script and who are going to act. This took another day and it was decided that the film will have only 3 prime characters to be enacted by Suraj, Abs and Monika. The same day we reached the hanuman temple in the campus to have our first shot, but sadly, the poor light intensity didn’t let us do that. We had to do something. So, we went to Vatika Restaurant to have a scene shot and thus, the shooting voyage starts.

As we had already decided the dialogues, we just needed to shoot the scene. But a short conversation to be shot took a long time. This shows how much an actual movie be tasking. We had a lot of fun doing it. We shot in Vatika. Then went to Abs' relative's house to have another shoot. Used diluted 'Thums Up' as Alcohol. :P .

The next day, Nitrutsav started. With some of us having our hands full for the fest, it was difficult for us to complete the movie in time. It was Monika's scene that we had to shoot. So, in the afternoon we went to her home to picture the scenes. We needed a home scenario and it was a perfect place to do them. It took us the whole afternoon. That night as we had a laughter show, we had a delayed start of the editing part.
Next was the D-day, the last day to submit the movie. With more 3-4 scenes to be shot, it was a distant possibility for us to complete in time. Rather we thought why not leave the movie for a later date and enjoy the events. So, we gave up at last.

Enjoyed the next two days for sure. Dance competitions, Band performance, Dumb Charades and especially, the laser show (it was my presentation that was on display in the show). Even if we gave up, were a bit disappointed, we learnt a lot. It was an altogether new experience. At least the next time when I see a movie my eyes will be a little bit on how the film is made and other stuffs too.

And yes, the show must go on. Don’t forget to catch the premiere of our movie :P . Date to be announced soon……...
